New asphalt to be laid at Famagusta Port after lighting repairs
Faiz Sucuoğlu, Minister of Public Works and Transport of the TRNC, announced that new asphalt will be laid at Famagusta Port in the coming days. Work will begin after the lighting problem at the port was fixed.

On Saturday, 3 October, the minister and ministry staff spent around two hours inspecting the port. According to Sucuoğlu, the new asphalt will be another step towards addressing structural deficiencies: Famagusta Port is used very intensively, and many problems have accumulated there.
The lighting repairs were completed on the evening of 28 September. On that day, after inspecting the ports of Famagusta and Kyrenia, the minister admitted that he was “ashamed” of their condition: the passenger waiting halls were dark and poorly air-conditioned. Similar lighting work has also been promised at Kyrenia’s tourist port.
“We have resolved the lighting problem. We will also lay new asphalt. We managed to quickly restore the supply chain, and trucks are now arriving in the country regularly. We want to solve all the problems that can be addressed during our term,” Sucuoğlu said.
The minister also met with representatives of the Famagusta Seafarers’ Union (Mağusa Denizciler Birliği) and discussed the pier that was destroyed in 2017. According to Sucuoğlu, a number of issues still need to be resolved before a new pier can be built, and ministry specialists will work on them.
