Search teams have found the body of another victim of the Filo Jet high-speed ferry sinking off the coast of Girne. According to Turkish media, the death toll has risen to 19, while 9 people remain missing.

The TRNC Prime Minister’s Office announced the discovery. DNA testing has begun to establish the victim’s identity.
The Filo Jet ferry, which operated on the Girne–Taşucu route (Taşucu, Turkey), sank on 30 August shortly after leaving the port of Girne. The vessel began taking on water through the bow. The crew tried to return to port but did not make it in time.
The Prime Minister’s Office stressed that search operations have continued without interruption since the first day of the tragedy and that the state will continue to deploy all available resources to find everyone who is missing. The government extended its condolences to the victims’ families.
An investigation into the cause of the sinking is also under way. Earlier, a court in Girne extended the detention of the captain and crew members, while TRNC police established that the vessel’s watertight doors were open at the time of the accident.
