Body of one of 20 people missing after Filo Jet sinking found off Girne

TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that the body of one of the 20 people who went missing after the Filo Jet sank had been recovered off Girne. According to preliminary information, the victim was a man approximately 50 years old; the body was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa for identification.

Asked whether any other bodies had been spotted near or inside the vessel, Üstel said that there had been no further finds so far. He promised to inform the public about every new result and expressed his condolences to the families who continue to await news.

The wreck site is located at a depth of approximately 550 m, which is complicating the operation. A second rescue vessel with broader technical capabilities arrived in the area the same day, capable of operating at greater depths.

Search operations are continuing around the clock. As the prime minister noted, visibility at such a depth is extremely poor, so the area is being surveyed using robotic systems equipped with lighting.

Üstel stressed that Turkey’s state agencies are providing full support to the search and rescue operation.
