New public hospitals open in Girne and Güzelyurt: 36 doctors across 18 specialties
New public hospitals opened simultaneously in Girne and Güzelyurt on October 2. At the Güzelyurt hospital, patients will be seen by 36 doctors across 18 specialties, while the emergency department will operate around the clock with two teams.

The ceremony took place at the new public hospital in Girne, with the participation of Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, who arrived in the TRNC for a one-day visit. Also attending the opening were Turkey’s ambassador to Lefkoşa, Ali Murat Başçeri, TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, ministers and MPs.
According to TRNC Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek, the Güzelyurt hospital will have pediatricians, gynecologists, general practitioners, ENT specialists, dentists, psychiatrists, pulmonologists, ophthalmologists, radiologists, urologists, dermatologists and cardiologists, as well as eight general practitioners. The minister added that the hospital is fully equipped with the necessary facilities.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel noted that both projects had been completed after many years of waiting: residents of the district had waited around 15 years for the new hospital in Güzelyurt. The next major project will be the new 343-bed Nalbantoğlu Hospital in Lefkoşa, which is scheduled to open in 2027.
According to Beyhan Berova, chief physician of the hospital in Girne, the new building gives local residents access to medical care they have been waiting for for many years.
Cevdet Yılmaz said that 1 billion 514 million Turkish lira had been allocated to healthcare under the 2026 Economic and Financial Cooperation Protocol between Turkey and the TRNC. He said that Northern Cyprus could become a country offering not only high-quality healthcare to its citizens, but also a developed medical tourism sector.
