Outdoor work banned in Northern Cyprus from 12:00 to 16:00 due to extreme heat
The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has announced new measures due to high temperatures.
Under Article 36 of Labour Law No. 22/1992, outdoor work and work under continuous exposure to direct sunlight are prohibited daily from 12:00 to 16:00 from 5 to 15 August 2026.
The ministry noted that the decision is aimed at protecting workers from heat-related health risks, including heatstroke and excessive fluid loss.
At the same time, for agricultural and construction work outside populated areas, employers are permitted to move the start of the working day to an earlier time to ensure that activities can continue safely.
The ministry clarified that employers will be able to determine independently the delivery times for aggregates, ready-mix concrete, other construction materials and construction equipment to construction sites as part of the early start of work.
The authorities urged employers to strictly comply with the measures adopted, organise work processes taking weather conditions into account and ensure that occupational safety requirements are met.
