TRNC Minimum Wage Commission to Review Employers' Objections
The TRNC Minimum Wage Determination Commission will convene today to address the objections raised by employers regarding the newly established minimum wage. Originally set to take place on Sunday, the meeting has been rescheduled for Monday.
On September 18, the Commission set the minimum wage at 35,180 Turkish Lira (net) and 40,436 Turkish Lira (gross). However, employers were not present at that meeting, as they argue that "the minimum wage lowers competitiveness."
Following the publication of the decision in the "Official Gazette," a 10-day objection period was initiated, which ended on Saturday, September 28. On September 25, the Turkish Cypriot Employers' Union publicly opposed the new minimum wage decision.
To review the objections, the Minimum Wage Determination Commission will meet again on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security’s conference room.
