Mayor of Kyrenia urges residents not to dump construction waste and old furniture in the streets

Kyrenia Municipality reminded residents that dumping construction waste, bulky waste and old furniture in the streets is prohibited. Such violations are punishable by a fine of up to one minimum wage, which currently amounts to 70,893 Turkish liras.

The municipality said that one resident who left waste in the street admitted his mistake after an explanatory conversation. At the same time, the authorities stressed that their main aim is not to fine residents, but to prevent similar incidents and keep Kyrenia clean.

The municipality also reminded residents that fines ranging from half to the full minimum wage have already been imposed for storing waste on pavements.

Residents are asked not to leave bulky or construction waste in the streets, but to call the short number 185. If the amount of waste is small, it will be removed free of charge. A symbolic fee is charged for the removal of old furniture, including beds, wardrobes, tables and other items.

The municipality noted that Kyrenia is a shared home for all residents and urged people to treat the city with care. Municipal services were thanked for their daily work, while residents were asked to report those who continue to dump waste in unauthorised places.
