Two Turkish Cypriots Arrested at Cyprus Independence Day Parade

Two Turkish Cypriots were arrested during the Cyprus Independence Day parade for holding a banner that read, "Republic of Cyprus: The Only Solution."

According to the Cyprus Mail, after the couple unfurled the banner during the celebration, the police informed them that political signs were not allowed during the parade. Despite the warning, the activists refused to take down the banner, which led to their arrest.

The report mentions that this banner had been circulating on social media in recent days, with Oz Karahan, a former candidate for the European Parliament representing the Turkish Cypriot community, being its most prominent supporter.

As a reminder, October 1st is Cyprus Independence Day, a national public holiday. A military parade was held in Nicosia to mark the occasion.
