Distribution of Imported Potatoes Begins in Northern Cyprus

The first shipment of 100 tons of potatoes, imported from Turkey, has arrived in Northern Cyprus. Distribution to stores is set to begin today. This measure is expected to help lower the price of potatoes.

According to the Soil Products Institute (TÜK), the potatoes, which meet all quality standards after being stored in refrigerated conditions, will be available for sale in retail outlets.

TÜK’s chairman confirmed that the first 100 tons of potatoes—out of the 200 tons expected to be imported from Turkey—have passed all preliminary checks. There were no issues during the delivery process, and all imported products were stored under proper supervision.

It should be noted that after the Ministry of Agriculture announced the import of a potato variety called "Caviar Flavor" from Turkey, the price of potatoes in Northern Cyprus dropped by nearly half, falling to 55 TL per kilogram.

Previously, residents of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) had expressed frustration over the sharp rise in local potato prices, which had initially reached 70-90 TL per kilogram and later surged to 100-120 TL.
