Restoration of Panagia Chrysopolitissa Church Completed in Girne, Northern Cyprus

Restoration work on the historic Panagia Chrysopolitissa Church in Girne, Northern Cyprus, has been successfully completed. This was announced by Sotos Ktoris, co-chair of the Bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, via his social media account.

According to Ktoris, the church, located near Girne’s old harbor, dates back to Cyprus’s Frankish period and once served as the local metropolitan cathedral. Over the centuries, it has undergone several renovations, with the most significant one taking place in 1783.

The recent restoration project was partially funded by the European Union and partially by the residents of Girne. The work was carried out under the technical supervision of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Ktoris highlighted the crucial role the local community played, saying:
"The residents supported the efforts to preserve this important cultural heritage site with great respect and care."
