Federation of Turkish Cypriot Taxi Driver Associations Established in Northern Cyprus
The Federation of Turkish Cypriot Taxi Driver Associations has been officially established in the TRNC. This newly formed union will focus on combating illegal transport services across the country.
Speaking to Kıbrıs Postası, Murat Karalar, the president of the new federation, explained that founding members include taxi drivers from Ercan, Famagusta, Kyrenia, Bafra, and Nicosia, as well as representatives from the United Taxi Drivers Association.
"In the past, we all operated individually and separately. For the last two years, we’ve been working together, but we needed to formalize our structure. We held an extraordinary general assembly where I was the only candidate and was unanimously elected president,” Karalar stated.
Looking ahead, the federation plans to establish a monitoring board to ensure proper operations and maintain structural organization.
Muhammet Biberoglu, President of the Famagusta Taxi Drivers Association, described the creation of the federation as "an important step towards unifying taxi drivers across the island."
He also mentioned that future initiatives may include purchasing vehicles and spare parts from abroad, setting up an insurance company, and offering services such as vehicle painting and bodywork.
