Pesticide exceedances detected in local fruits and vegetables in Northern Cyprus
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the TRNC published the results of weekly inspections for the period from January 23 to 29.
As part of the control, samples of imported and local produce were sent to the State Laboratory and tested according to the EU permissible pesticide level standards.
Inspection results:
- Imported produce:
All 36 samples tested were safe — no exceedances detected. - Local produce:
Of 37 samples:
34 were clean
3 samples exceeded the permissible pesticide levels
Problematic products:
- Strawberries — farm in the village of Yeşilırmak
- Cucumbers — farms in the village of Tatlısu and in Famagusta
After the violations were detected, harvesting from the specified plots has been temporarily suspended until repeated laboratory results are obtained.
The ministry emphasized that inspections of agricultural products continue regularly to protect consumer health.
