New Minimum Wage in the TRNC Takes Effect: Employers Prepare to Sue
The new minimum wage regulation has come into effect in Northern Cyprus, as announced in the "Official Gazette."
Starting from September 1, the new minimum wage is set at 40,436 Turkish Lira gross and 35,180 Turkish Lira net per month. This translates to an hourly minimum wage of 233.28 TL, a daily wage of 1,866.27 TL, and a weekly wage of 9,331.38 TL.
In a written statement, the Turkish Cypriot Employers' Union referred to the final minimum wage as a "failure" and declared their intention to "initiate legal proceedings to ensure the proper determination of the minimum wage under fair conditions and in accordance with the law."

"Our objection isn't to the amount itself, but rather to the manner in which the minimum wage has been determined."
-
"An uncontrollably rising minimum wage only increases the cost of living, and it will not benefit employees; it has become a detrimental force in the economy," the employers stated.
