Excessive pesticide residues found in imported apples and cowpeas in the TRNC
The TRNC Ministry of Agriculture detected pesticide residues above permitted limits in two imported products — red apples and cowpeas. Another sample of local produce, purslane from Famagusta, contained a substance that is not recommended for use on this crop.

Samples were collected from 25 September to 1 October, and the analysis was carried out by the State Laboratory. Of the 37 imported products tested, 35 were found to be clean.
The batch of red apples supplied by Non Foods, which exceeded the permitted limits for plant protection products, was destroyed. Cowpeas (börülce) supplied by A. Kaner Ltd., with pesticide residues above the permitted limits, will be returned to their country of origin.
Seven samples of local produce were tested, and six passed inspection. Purslane grown by farmer Ayşe Dağtepe in Famagusta, which was found to contain a substance not recommended for this crop, was destroyed.
