Northern Cyprus police urge drivers and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution on the roads
The Police Directorate (PGM) has issued an official statement to the public in connection with the growing number of road accidents involving pedestrians. The department called on all road users to join forces to stop the rise in the number of human casualties on the roads. According to traffic police, a significant share of serious accidents occurs at night due to drivers' inattention, failure to observe speed limits in populated areas, and disregard for pedestrian crossing rules.
In this regard, the police remind that pedestrians remain the most vulnerable category of road users. Drivers are urged to slow down to a minimum when approaching crossings, schools and residential areas, and to completely refrain from using mobile phones while driving. Pedestrians, in turn, must cross the road only at designated places, make sure vehicles are stopping before stepping onto the carriageway, and use clothing with reflective elements or turn on a phone flashlight at night to improve visibility. Road checks in the TRNC will be intensified, and strict administrative measures will be applied to violators.
