The Northern Cyprus Fire Service Published Alarming Statistics and Reminded Residents of Strict Bans
The TRNC Fire Service has released a report for the past week, according to which 19 fires occurred in Northern Cyprus. The total material damage caused by the blazes is estimated at approximately 3.2 million Turkish lira. The main causes of the incidents were identified as short circuits in power grids, carelessly discarded cigarette butts, sparks from agricultural machinery, and deliberate grass fires.
In light of the critical rise in fire danger due to the persistent hot and windy weather, the department has called on residents to strictly observe safety rules. We remind you that a categorical ban is in force on the island on lighting any open fire, burning rubbish, dry branches and stubble in the fields.
Residents are urged to immediately report even the slightest signs of smoke or suspicious actions by third parties to the emergency services: 199 (Fire Service) or 177 (Forest Service). Violations of fire safety regulations during the summer period carry severe criminal liability, including hefty fines and imprisonment.
