Since the beginning of 2024, road accidents in Northern Cyprus have tragically claimed the lives of 40 people. This total includes individuals who passed away from injuries some time after the initial accidents.

Chief Road Inspector of the Police General Directorate, Serdar Karpuzcu, provided these updates during an interview on BRT's "Sabah Haber" program.

Inspector Karpuzcu noted that, initially, 38 people were reported dead at the scene of various accidents. However, with the addition of individuals who succumbed to their injuries later, the total death count has reached 40.

The majority of these fatal accidents—18 in total—were due to collisions between two vehicles. In 16 cases, single vehicles were involved in accidents, while four incidents resulted in pedestrians being fatally struck by vehicles.

Inspector Karpuzcu urged all drivers to exercise greater caution on the roads and strictly follow traffic regulations. He emphasized that taking necessary precautions is crucial for road safety.
