Inflation accelerates in Northern Cyprus: annual rate reaches 38.10%

The TRNC Statistical Institute has published data on the consumer price index for July 2026.

According to the institution, prices rose by 2.90% in July compared with the previous month. Since the beginning of 2026, prices have increased by 20.34%, while compared with July 2025, the increase was 38.10%.

The largest increase among the main expenditure groups was recorded in education, at 9.79%. This was followed by restaurants and hotels (5.46%), health (4.80%), furniture, household appliances and routine household maintenance (3.66%), miscellaneous goods and services (2.75%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.92%).

In July, cucumbers saw the largest price increase, rising by 158.99%. Prices also rose significantly for lettuce (48.70%) and upper-secondary mathematics textbooks (46.13%).

The most notable price decrease was recorded for cherries, which fell by 43.83%. Tomatoes (27.58%) and watermelons (25.92%) saw the next-largest price drops.

According to the Statistical Institute, prices rose on average for 458 items in the consumer basket in July, while a decrease in prices was recorded for 99 items.
