Four TRNC universities make the THE World University Rankings 2027

Four universities in Northern Cyprus have made the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027. The best result among TRNC universities went to Near East University, which placed in the 501–550 band.

European University of Lefke placed in the 601–650 band, Cyprus International University in the 651–700 band, and Eastern Mediterranean University in the 701–800 band. The British publication’s ranking includes a total of 2,297 universities from 118 countries and regions.

THE assigns precise positions only to the top 200 universities; the rest are placed in bands. Near East University received an overall score of 46.0–47.3, European University of Lefke 43.4–44.4, Cyprus International University 42.4–43.3, and Eastern Mediterranean University 40.2–42.3.

The assessment is based on 18 indicators grouped into five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry collaboration. International outlook encompasses not only the number of international students, but also international faculty and publications produced jointly with colleagues abroad.

TRNC universities perform strongest in research quality. Cyprus International University leads with 82.8 points, followed by European University of Lefke with 80.9, Near East University with 76.1, and Eastern Mediterranean University with 75.4.

As Kıbrıs Postası notes, the inclusion of four universities in the ranking boosts the international visibility of higher education in Northern Cyprus, whose universities are largely oriented towards international students.
