The announcement was made at the opening of the Dr Halil Onalt Medical Centre in Dikmen. The building was constructed in 240 days and is the first investment in the district’s medical infrastructure in 52 years. The centre is named in honour of a doctor who died during the pandemic.

According to the ambassador, Turkey supports the government of Ünal Üstel’s policy of “healthcare close to home”—providing medical services in local communities so residents do not have to travel to central hospitals.

Başçeri noted that construction is continuing on a new state hospital in Kyrenia, a hospital in Morphou, and the new Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia. Work is also underway on a medical centre in Maraş, Famagusta, as well as on the renovation of the centre in Değirmenlik.

According to the ambassador, Ankara and the TRNC authorities share the goal of providing residents with high-quality, accessible and modern healthcare. Başçeri also thanked the contractor who completed the construction in Dikmen.
