Drunk driver hits and kills pedestrian in Famagusta, flees scene
A fatal traffic accident occurred at night in Famagusta.
Around 02:00 on İsmet İnönü Avenue, a 23-year-old driver under the influence of alcohol struck a pedestrian — 36-year-old Ömer Albaz.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, but could not be saved.
After the accident, the driver fled the scene, but about 2 hours later, he voluntarily went to the hospital and surrendered to the police.
The court ordered him into custody for 3 days. The investigation is ongoing, with CCTV footage being reviewed and witness statements being collected.
It is reported that the deceased worked at a hotel and was married. His death has been a tragedy for his family and colleagues.
