Two accidents in Kyrenia and Gönyeli: child injured, drunk motorcyclist arrested

In Kyrenia, a 10-year-old girl was injured after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing. The accident occurred on 18 August at around 15:30 on Ziya Rızkı Street. According to police, 24-year-old Emre Can Aladağ, driving a car with registration number PS 025, was travelling northbound and failed to exercise sufficient caution when approaching the pedestrian crossing.

The girl was crossing the road at the crossing when she was hit by the car. She was taken to Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia. She was diagnosed with fractures to her pelvis and growth-plate bones. The girl was kept under observation in the orthopaedics department. The driver was arrested. Police continue their investigation.

The second accident occurred at around 16:00 at the first kilometre of the Gönyeli — Geçitkale road. 32-year-old Resul Sevimli was riding a motorcycle with registration number SS 641 towards Geçitkale while under the influence of alcohol. His blood alcohol level was measured at 125 milligrams. The motorcyclist lost control, veered off the road and crashed the left side of the motorcycle into a metal barrier.

The injured man was taken to Famagusta State Hospital. After receiving first aid and being kept under observation, he was discharged. Resul Sevimli was arrested on suspicion of riding a motorcycle while intoxicated and causing a traffic accident.
