In Nicosia, Northern Cyprus, a drunk driver crashed into a pole — 1 injured, 1 arrested
Last night, around 8:30 p.m., in Nicosia, Northern Cyprus, a drunk driver lost control and crashed into an electric pole, police reported. A passenger was injured, and the driver was detained.
According to police data, the driver, Mehmet Yonem (69), under the influence of alcohol — 141 milligrams — was driving a car with license plate FR 479 in the southern direction. He veered off the left side of the road and hit an electric pole on a dirt area.
As a result of the accident, the passenger, Ayten Yonem (70), was injured. She was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia, where she was treated and placed under observation in the surgical intensive care unit.
Mehmet Yonem was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing a traffic accident. Police are continuing the investigation.
