Earthquake Hits Cyprus Over the Weekend: Tremors Felt Across the Island
An earthquake struck Cyprus over the weekend, with tremors felt throughout the island, particularly in Paphos and Limassol.
According to the Geological Survey Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus, a significant earthquake, measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, was recorded by the seismological service on Sunday, September 29, at 02:18 local time.
The epicenter of the quake was located inland, in the Koukliou-Pissouri area, about 20 kilometers southeast of Paphos, at a depth of 40 kilometers.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) reported a slightly stronger earthquake, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, which was detected approximately 66 kilometers from the Lefka seismic station.
Initial assessments indicated that the epicenter of this quake was offshore, near Limassol, at a depth of around 16 kilometers, with coordinates of 34.54N and 32.61E.
There have been no reports of casualties or damage following the incident.
