Medical Education in Northern Cyprus

Medical and related fields are offered at several major universities in Northern Cyprus. Students can train to become doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, medical imaging specialists, laboratory diagnostics specialists, anaesthesia specialists and professionals in other fields. Tuition fees in the 2026–2027 academic year vary greatly depending on the programme: medical education may exceed 13,000 EUR per year, while many Health Sciences programmes and two-year medical specialisations cost around 2,000–4,500 EUR per year, including the applicable scholarship.

Near East University

Near East University (NEU) in Lefkoşa offers one of the broadest selections of medical programmes in Northern Cyprus. It has separate faculties of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing, a Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as two-year programmes for training medical technicians.

NEU has already published its tuition fees for international students for the 2026–2027 academic year. Most four-year and two-year programmes have a standard 50% discount, while Medicine and Dentistry are subject to separate tuition rates.

In addition to bachelor's programmes, NEU offers a wide range of two-year professional medical programmes. These include Anesthesia, Audiometry, Biomedical Device Technology, Dialysis, Emergency and First Aid, Medical Imaging Technology, Medical Laboratory Technician, Operating Room Practice, Opticianry, Pathology Laboratory Technician, Pharmaceutical Services, Physiotherapy, Radiotherapy, Oral and Dental Support Personnel and Orthopedic Prosthesis and Orthosis Technician.

Most of these two-year programmes cost around 3,225 EUR per year in the 2026–2027 academic year, including the standard scholarship, VAT and administrative fee. The current table is available on the official Near East University website.

University of Kyrenia

University of Kyrenia offers full Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy programmes, as well as several Faculty of Health Sciences fields and two-year medical technician programmes.

For the 2026–2027 academic year, the university has published tuition fees that already include the scholarship, VAT and administrative fees.

There are also two-year programmes in Dental Prosthetics Technology, Medical Imaging Techniques, Physiotherapy, First and Emergency Aid, Operating Room Services, Anesthesia and Oral and Dental Health. For most of them, the final annual tuition fee is approximately 3,225 EUR.

Eastern Mediterranean University

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) in Famagusta offers Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, several four-year Faculty of Health Sciences programmes and a wide range of two-year specialisations.

The medical programme lasts 6 years and is delivered jointly with the Faculty of Medicine of Marmara University. Dentistry is a separate joint programme: during the first 2 years, students study at EMU in Northern Cyprus, while the clinical component from the 3rd to the 5th year takes place at the University of Health Sciences in Istanbul.

The tuition fee range is related to the scholarship amount. The official table provides options from 30% to 45% for Medicine, from 30% to 45% for Dentistry, and from 60% to 75% for Pharmacy and the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The School of Health Services also offers two-year programmes in Anesthesia, First and Emergency Aid, Oral and Dental Health, Surgery Services, Medical Imaging Techniques, Orthopedic Prosthetics and Orthotics, Radiotherapy, Physiotherapy and Dialysis. The cost of two-year programmes for new international students in 2026–2027 is approximately 3,409–4,734 USD per year, depending on the scholarship.

Cyprus International University

Cyprus International University (CIU) in Lefkoşa offers Medicine, Dentistry, two Pharmacy programmes, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nutrition and Dietetics, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Child Development and Social Work.

The main medical and related fields include:

CIU provides international students with a basic 50% scholarship, while discounts of 75% and 100% may be available based on academic assessment results.

For the 2026–2027 academic year, the university does not publish a single public tuition fee table for all medical programmes. The price is calculated individually based on the programme, citizenship, year of admission and scholarship through the official CIU calculator.

As a guide to the general cost of tuition at CIU, standard programmes usually start at approximately 6,200 EUR per year before the scholarship is applied. Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy belong to separate tuition categories, so their cost should be calculated separately before submitting documents.

European University of Lefke

European University of Lefke (EUL) offers medical and related programmes through the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Vocational School of Health Services.

Confirmed programmes include:

For international students, EUL uses a scholarship system and an individual tuition fee calculation. For the 2026–2027 academic year, the university offers a separate section with current tuition fees and a tuition fee calculator. There is no single public table with all medical programmes and their final prices at the time of verification, so the final amount should be checked before submitting an application.

Girne American University

Girne American University (GAU) in Girne has a Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, School of Nursing and Faculty of Health Sciences.

The main medical and related fields include:

At the time of verification, GAU had not yet published a separate 2026–2027 tuition fee table for new international students. The latest published official fee applies to the 2025–2026 academic year.

In addition, the university listed an annual registration and activity fee of 500 EUR. GAU also states that international students receive a basic 50% scholarship, so the actual amount may differ from the published full fee.

The prices in the table should not be regarded as the final amount for every applicant. The scholarship, language of instruction, citizenship, preparatory course and additional fees may significantly change the final cost.

What to consider when choosing a medical programme

For medical specialisations, it is important to consider more than just the cost. Doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses and other medical professionals work in regulated professions, so the requirements for diploma recognition depend on the country where the graduate plans to work.

Before applying, it is worth checking the programme duration, language of instruction, location of clinical training and diploma recognition rules in the relevant country. This is especially important for joint programmes in which part of the training takes place outside Northern Cyprus.
