AGO in Cyprus: Affordable Sports Classes for Children and Adults
Football, basketball, tennis, gymnastics, swimming, Pilates, Zumba and other activities in Cyprus can be found not only at private clubs. The AGO programme — «Αθλητισμός Για Όλους», or “Sport for All”, — is organised by the Cyprus Sports Organisation and offers affordable sports classes for children and adults. Groups operate in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and the Famagusta district, with venues not only in major cities but also in suburbs and smaller towns.
Registration for the 2026–2027 season opened on 1 September, and classes began on 7 September 2026. Most of the main programmes run from September to June.

What is AGO
AGO stands for Αθλητισμός Για Όλους — “Sport for All”. The programme is run by the Cyprus Sports Organisation. Its aim is to make regular sports activities accessible to people regardless of gender, nationality, age, physical fitness, education, or social or financial status.
This is not a single sports centre or a chain of identical fitness clubs. AGO organises groups at numerous venues throughout the Republic of Cyprus, including schools, sports halls, swimming pools, municipal facilities and other sports venues.
The programme’s main advantage is therefore the opportunity to find affordable, regular classes relatively close to home. The AGO website publishes schedules separately for each district, specifying the venue, days and times of classes, and the instructor’s contact details.
Who can take part
AGO is not limited to children’s classes. Programmes cater to different age groups: preschoolers, schoolchildren, adults and older people. There are also adapted programmes for people with disabilities.
The required level of ability depends on the specific class. Some groups focus on general physical development and an introduction to sport, while specialised programmes are dedicated to a particular discipline.
Programmes for children
One of AGO’s main areas is General Sports, or general sports training. Children are not limited to one discipline: the programme introduces them to the basic techniques and rules of several sports.
Depending on the district, the programme includes:
- football;
- basketball;
- handball;
- volleyball;
- athletics.
The aim of these groups is to give children basic sports skills, improve their fitness and introduce them to different disciplines. This can be a convenient option for families who have not yet decided which sport their child would like to pursue more seriously.
In addition to general training, the schedule includes groups for individual sports. The range of disciplines varies depending on the city and the facilities available.
Sport for preschoolers
AGO also offers classes for preschool-age children. The emphasis is not on sporting results, but on movement through games and exercises that develop coordination, teamwork and the habit of being physically active.
These groups are organised in kindergartens and other preschools participating in the programme. The availability of a particular group therefore depends on the area where you live and the preschool.
Specialised classes
In addition to general sports training, AGO organises specialised classes. The list varies by district. For example, Limassol’s current programme for the 2026–2027 season includes separate tennis and karate classes, as well as rhythmic gymnastics.
These groups have their own schedules and venues. Before registering, check the programme for your district: the availability of a particular sport in Limassol does not mean that the same class is offered in Paphos or Larnaca.
What AGO offers adults
For adults, the choice is not limited to ordinary gymnastics. The programme includes basketball and volleyball, as well as a wide range of group workouts.
Current AGO programmes include Pilates, aerobics, Zumba, functional training, circuit training, resistance training, full body workouts, POUND, yoga, strengthening and toning classes. Some groups offer adapted and recovery workouts.
For example, in the Limassol district alone, the 2026–2027 season offers Pilates in Polemidia, Ypsonas, Trachoni, Germasogeia, Kolossi, Pyrgos and other areas, as well as functional and full-body workouts.
Adult team sports are also part of the programme. Basketball and volleyball groups operate at various school sports facilities in Limassol.
Swimming for children and adults
Swimming in AGO is paid for separately from the regular annual programmes. There are groups for children and adults, and the specific pools and schedules depend on the district.
In Limassol, for example, adult classes take place at Tsirio Swimming Pool and Olympic Swimming Pool; the programme also includes Aqua Pilates.
Swimming can be paid for monthly or in three-month blocks, so this format differs from the main classes, which are usually paid for annually or for the second half of the year.
Other AGO programmes
AGO also works with groups for whom a standard sports class may be inconvenient or insufficient.
Classes for older people
Programmes for older people are organised in cooperation with municipalities, seniors’ clubs and other organisations. Their aim is to support physical activity, social interaction and regular movement.
Adapted sport
There are programmes for people with sensory, physical and intellectual disabilities. Classes are held in cooperation with special schools, day centres and specialised organisations.
Summer sports programmes for children
In summer, AGO organises a separate programme of sports activities. This is not a regular year-long class, but a standalone summer programme with its own registration dates and fees.
In 2026, participation cost EUR 250 for one child, EUR 420 for two children from the same family, EUR 570 for three and EUR 720 for four. Summer rates should not be confused with the significantly lower cost of regular AGO classes running from September to June.
Where classes take place
AGO programmes for the 2026–2027 season are published separately for the five districts of the Republic of Cyprus:
- Nicosia;
- Limassol;
- Larnaca;
- Paphos;
- Famagusta district.
However, it is worth searching beyond the city name. For example, the Limassol district programme includes classes in Germasogeia, Polemidia, Ypsonas, Kolossi, Palodia, Pyrgos, Episkopi, Avdimou, Agros, Kyperounta and other towns and villages.
In the Famagusta district, groups operate in Paralimni, Deryneia, Sotira, Ayia Napa, Frenaros, Liopetri and Vrysoulles, among other places.
This is one of AGO’s strengths: some classes are held right in schools and municipal sports facilities close to residential areas, rather than only in large central complexes.
How much does AGO cost in the 2026–2027 season
The cost depends on the type of programme. The main classes are paid for annually for the period from September to June. A half-year rate applies to those joining the programme from January to June.
| Programme | Year | January–June |
|---|---|---|
| General sports training, basketball, handball, football, educational games | EUR 70 | EUR 50 |
| Specialised programmes | EUR 110 | EUR 80 |
| Preschool programmes | EUR 70 | EUR 50 |
| Programmes for adults | EUR 110 | EUR 80 |
Reduced rates are available for certain participant categories. Adult programmes cost students EUR 35 per year or EUR 20 for January–June. Other eligible categories also pay EUR 35 per year or EUR 20 for a half-year.
For children’s main programmes and preschool groups, the annual rate for eligible categories is EUR 35, and the half-year rate is EUR 20. The same reduced rates apply to specialised children’s programmes.
Separate family discounts are available for participants from the same family. Check the applicable rate during registration.
Swimming fees
| Programme | 3 months | 1 month |
|---|---|---|
| Children’s swimming | EUR 90 | EUR 35 |
| Adult swimming | EUR 90 | EUR 35 |
For eligible categories, children’s and adult swimming costs EUR 30 for three months or EUR 15 per month. Some family categories pay EUR 60 for three months or EUR 25 per month for children’s swimming.
Who can take part for free
Children and adults receiving EEE — Minimum Guaranteed Income are entitled to participate in one AGO programme free of charge.
How to register
Online registration for the 2026–2027 season began on 1 September 2026, and the main programme started on 7 September.
Before registering, first open the programme for your district and choose a suitable group. The page lists the venue, days and times of classes, and the instructor’s details.
Registration is carried out online through the AGO platform. If the list does not include a suitable group or you need to check whether places are available, contact the programme’s district office.
Why check AGO before joining a private club
AGO is not a substitute for a professional sports academy. If a child plans to pursue football, tennis, gymnastics or another sport seriously at a competitive level, a specialist club may offer a more intensive programme.
However, for a first introduction to sport, regular physical activity, or an adult looking for Pilates, Zumba, swimming, basketball or functional training close to home, AGO can be a very practical option. This is especially true given that annual fees start at EUR 70 for the main programmes and EUR 110 for adults.
