21-year-old Indian national stabbed in Aglandjia, two suspects remanded in custody for 8 days

A 21-year-old Indian national was stabbed in Aglandjia in the early hours of 1 September. The victim underwent surgery at Nicosia General Hospital, and doctors describe his condition as critical. Nicosia Police are investigating the case as attempted murder.

According to police, at around 01:15, a 24-year-old man approached the victim’s apartment, entered it and stabbed the young man. The victim’s girlfriend was inside the apartment at the time.

The Nicosia District Court issued eight-day remand orders for the two detainees. The 24-year-old is suspected of causing the stab wounds, while the 21-year-old is suspected of aiding and abetting: according to investigators, he hid evidence at his home.

Investigators believe the motive was a personal dispute. According to police, one of the detainees is the victim’s girlfriend’s former partner. All those involved in the dispute are Indian nationals.

The case is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Department of Nicosia Police. Investigators are continuing to collect statements in order to establish the exact circumstances of the attack and the role of each detainee.
