Cyprus ranked 20th in the EU for paid subscriptions to films, series and sports
Internet users in Cyprus are noticeably less likely to pay for subscriptions to films, series and sports broadcasts than the EU average. According to Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office, 26.97% of internet users in Cyprus have such a subscription, compared with an EU average of 32.68%. This places Cyprus 20th among the 27 EU countries.

Ireland, at 63.94%, Denmark, at 61.11%, and the Netherlands, at 59.23%, are the furthest ahead of Cyprus: in these countries, more than half of internet users have a paid video service subscription, twice as often as in Cyprus.
Nearby countries also rank ahead of Cyprus: in Greece, 40.18% of users have paid subscriptions to films, series and sports, while in Malta the figure is 33.07%.
Below Cyprus in the ranking are Bulgaria, with the lowest figure in the EU at 9.26%, Slovenia at 13.69%, Latvia at 16.65% and Lithuania at 17.42%.
Video remains the most popular type of paid digital content in the European Union: 32.7% of users have subscriptions to films, series and sports, 23.0% subscribe to music services, and 6.1% to gaming streaming services. Europeans are least likely to pay for online news, newspapers and magazines: only 7.2% of internet users have such subscriptions.
