Restoration of mosque in Koilani and Agia Paraskevi church in Palaiosofos completed in Cyprus
Conservation works have been completed at the mosque in the village of Koilani in the Limassol district and at the Agia Paraskevi church in the village of Palaiosofos in the Kyrenia district. This was announced by Sotos Ktoris, co-chair of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.

The mosque in Koilani is considered one of the oldest in the Limassol district. According to Ktoris, the project shows how cultural heritage can “connect Cyprus’s past with its future, strengthening trust between the people of this land”.
Both restoration projects were funded by the European Union, with technical support provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). At the same time, the committee began work on the Agia Irini church, which is also located in the Kyrenia district.
The Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage is a bicommunal body comprising Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. It works to preserve Christian and Muslim monuments on both sides of the UN buffer zone. From 2012 to 2021, the European Commission allocated around €19.9 million to its projects, and work was carried out at 84 sites across the island during that period.
