The €6 Express Lane at Larnaca Airport does not speed up passport control

The paid Express Lane at Larnaca Airport costs €6 per passenger and only provides a faster queue for security screening and the passport control booths. It does not eliminate or speed up border control itself: Cyprus is part of the EU but has not yet joined the Schengen Area.

The service is sold by Hermes Airports, the operator of Larnaca and Paphos airports. Online Express Lane booking is available only for Larnaca, so passengers departing from Paphos should check availability with their airline. The ticket is valid for one use and is not a pass.

Hermes Airports’ terms state that the Express Lane does not guarantee passage without queuing: screening procedures are the same for these passengers as for everyone else, while the full €6 fare also applies to children and infants.

Airlines sell the same service as well. Aegean Airlines offers Larnaka Fast Track for €6 on its own flights and includes it in the fare for some business-class passengers, while airBaltic lists it among the benefits of business class. Conditions vary between carriers.

The paid lane cannot speed up border crossing while Cyprus remains outside the free-movement area. President Nikos Christodoulides has named joining the Schengen Area in 2026 as a goal, but in June the EU Council level reported that the country was only undergoing its first Schengen evaluation, while in the European Commission’s current materials the island is still listed as outside the area.

The Entry/Exit System (EES) has been operating at the external borders of 29 countries since 10 April, but it is not yet being applied in Cyprus. The EU Council has scheduled the launch of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) for the fourth quarter of 2026. ETIAS does not provide expedited passage at the airport: it is an entry authorisation for visa-exempt nationals of non-EU countries.
