Residents of a Larnaca complex complain of illegal electricity and water connections
The management committee of a residential complex in Larnaca has asked the authorities to investigate violations in its buildings: illegal electricity and water connections, apartments being occupied under forged rental agreements, and threats against residents.

According to the committee, some apartments are occupied without the owners’ permission. Rental agreements are forged, and money for the accommodation is collected by people who have no right to do so.
Electricity is routed to these apartments directly from the meters or through external wiring between apartments. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has recognised these connections as dangerous. A similar arrangement is used for water: it is taken without being metered. The committee also suspects that electricity and water are being resold to residents, and that money may be laundered through the collection of rent.
The illegal connections have already been cut off, but were soon reconnected. Committee members say they have been threatened and residents intimidated. In addition, the apartments are overcrowded, creating safety and hygiene risks.
The committee has filed complaints with the police and is working with the local authorities in Larnaca: the buildings are undergoing structural assessments, and a repair plan is being prepared. The statement stresses that the matter concerns safety, legality and property rights only, and is not directed at any group of residents.
