Foam has reappeared in the sea off the coast of Limassol

A large amount of foam has once again been observed in the water at Akti Olympion beach in Limassol. Holidaymakers have lodged numerous complaints about the condition of the sea and are demanding that the authorities identify the source of the pollution.

The Shipping Deputy Ministry and the Department of Environment have already collected additional water samples for laboratory analysis. Specialists intend to determine the origin of the foam and establish the cause of its appearance.

At the same time, the results of regular inspections continue to show that the quality of the seawater meets high standards and remains safe for swimming. However, the authorities acknowledge that the problem exists and requires a solution.

To identify the source of the pollution in Limassol, the number of samples collected has been increased, inspections on land and at sea have been stepped up, drones are being used to monitor the waters, and unscheduled inspections of vessels are being carried out. A stationary water-quality monitoring sensor will be installed on the coast in the near future.

In addition, the authorities are considering tougher penalties for marine pollution and expanding the use of modern systems to monitor discharges from vessels.
