An armed attack carried out on the head of Cyprus breeders' association
The Cyprus Republic Police is investigating a brazen attempt on the life of the head of the public organization «Voice of Livestock Breeders», carried out by an unknown assailant in a suburb of Nicosia. The attacker, armed with a firearm, lay in wait for the association leader near his home and carried out the attack, threatening him with a pistol. The victim managed to resist and quickly hide in a safe place, thanks to which tragic consequences were avoided, and the public figure did not suffer serious physical injuries, although he is in a state of severe psychological shock.
Enhanced units of the criminal police, ballistic experts and investigators immediately arrived at the scene, cordoned off the surrounding area to carry out initial investigative actions and search for evidence. Law enforcement authorities announced an interception plan and began examining recordings from outdoor surveillance cameras installed on private homes and commercial properties in the district in order to identify the attacker and trace his escape route. Investigators are considering several versions of what happened, paying particular attention to the professional and public activities of the injured organization leader.
Representatives of the agricultural sector and trade unions strongly condemned this act of violence, calling it a direct attempt to intimidate the entire island's farming community, which has recently been actively defending its economic rights before the state. The victim's colleagues are demanding that the leadership of the Ministry of Justice and the police conduct the investigation as quickly and transparently as possible, and bring those responsible to strict justice. The leadership of the law enforcement agencies assured the public that the case is under special control, and the best operatives of the department are involved in catching the criminal.
