Cyprus Celebrates Independence Day on October 1st
On October 1st, the Republic of Cyprus celebrates Independence Day. Today is a public holiday across the country, and a military parade will take place in Nicosia to mark the occasion.
The ceremonial parade will begin at 11:00 AM on Iosif X Iosif Avenue in Strovolos.
According to the police, the following roads will be closed to traffic due to the parade:
- A section of Iosif X Iosif Avenue, from its intersection with Spyros Kyprianou Avenue to the intersection with Athalassa Avenue, will be closed from 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
- A section of Spyros Kyprianou Avenue, from the Tseri roundabout to its intersection with Iosif X Iosif Avenue, will be closed from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
- A section of Dimitriou Vikelas Street, from its intersection with Spyros Kyprianou Avenue to the roundabout at Anexartisias Avenue (GSP), will be closed from 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
- A section of Perikleous Street, from its intersection with Iosif X Iosif Avenue to the intersection with Yannitson Street, will be closed from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
- A section of Stavros Avenue, from its intersection with Iosif X Iosif Avenue to the intersection with Yannitson Street, will be closed from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
- In addition, from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM, traffic will be temporarily halted on a section of Athalassa Avenue, from the intersection with Iosif X Iosif Avenue to the intersection with Limassol Avenue, to facilitate the movement of military units participating in the parade.
During these road closures, drivers wishing to leave Nicosia are advised to use the Nicosia–Limassol highway via Limassol Avenue (Fota Kalispera) and the ring road from the Tseri roundabout to the village. Drivers heading into Nicosia are also encouraged to use the same routes. All drivers are asked to follow the instructions of on-duty police officers.
It is also noted that the use of drones during the parade will be prohibited.
As previously reported, the President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, will attend the Independence Day parade.
