The trial of two foreigners related to real estate in the TRNC has begun in Cyprus

The trial of two foreign nationals accused of buying and selling former Greek-owned properties in the TRNC began today at the High Criminal Court in Nicosia, Cyprus.

According to Turkish and Greek media, the defendants are two Hungarian women who were arrested on charges related to real estate transactions in Northern Cyprus.

The defendants face charges of 63 crimes, with a total value of €271,744, received before September 26, 2024.

In particular, they are accused of collaborating with the company "Cyprus Constructions" in the sale of houses on land in the Kyrenia and Famagusta regions.

Other charges include the establishment of an organization to commit a crime, fraudulent transactions involving real estate owned by another person, using land registered under someone else’s name, fraud, and money laundering obtained illegally.

The prosecution also claims that both women knew their actions were illegal.

The accused deny all charges. However, unlike other similar cases, their lawyers have not raised any preliminary objections.

The prosecution has requested that the women be kept in custody. One of the defendants’ lawyers has asked for her conditional release until February 24, 2025, when the case will be reconsidered. The judge will make a decision on this matter today.
