The Cypriot Parliament has approved a new legislative act regulating the use of in-car dashcams in the republic. The law, which will officially come into force in July 2026, removes these devices from legal uncertainty and clearly sets out the rules for their use by car owners.

Under the new rules, drivers are allowed to use dashcams to record road conditions and protect their rights in the event of a traffic accident. However, the law imposes strict restrictions in line with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): recordings may be used exclusively for personal purposes or handed over to the police and insurance companies as evidence in proceedings. Publishing video recordings publicly, on social media or on internet platforms without the consent of third parties caught on camera and without blurring their faces and vehicle license plates remains strictly prohibited and will result in substantial fines.
