In Cyprus, pharmacy prescriptions can now be presented via barcode
Starting this coming Friday, residents of Cyprus registered with the GeSY healthcare system will be able to collect their medications from pharmacies using a prescription barcode.
As reported by the Health Insurance Organisation, the code will be available electronically through the beneficiary portal. It can be shown to the pharmacist directly from a smartphone, tablet, or other device.
The pharmacist will be able to scan the code and fill the prescription immediately, without the need for the patient to state their personal details out loud.
The barcode will be displayed in the personal account under the "Available Referrals" → "Prescriptions" section.
At the same time, patients can still present their ID card if they do not wish to provide their personal data verbally.
