Cyprus to create electronic system to prevent cases of violence

Cyprus’s Ministry of Justice and Public Order is working on the creation of an electronic platform for the early detection and prevention of cases of violence. Meetings on the development of the new system were held on 31 July and 4 August 2026 under the direction of Minister of Justice and Public Order Kostas Fytiris.

Representatives of the police, Social Welfare Services, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, as well as the Commissioners for Personal Data Protection and Equality, took part in the discussions.

The aim of the platform is to create a single mechanism that will enable government bodies to exchange necessary information about various cases of violence in accordance with clearly established procedures. The system is expected to help identify risk factors more quickly, prevent the escalation of conflicts and ensure coordinated intervention by the relevant services, with priority given to protecting victims and people at risk.

At the latest meeting, the preliminary structure of the future system was presented. Participants discussed the technical, practical and legal aspects of its implementation, including personal data protection, respect for the rights of those involved and compliance with European legislation.

The Ministry clarified that the platform is intended as an operational tool for dealing with various forms of violence. It is not connected to a separate project for collecting statistical data on violence against women and domestic violence, which is being developed as part of Cyprus’s commitments to the European Union.

Work on the project will continue with the aim of creating a safe and legally sound platform.
