The number of flu cases has risen in Cyprus — public hospitals are overloaded
In Cyprus, there has been an increase in flu and respiratory infection cases, leading to a rise in hospitalizations and overloading of public hospitals, representatives of the PASIDI union reported on February 4, 2026.
According to the PASIDI division operating within the general public hospital system, the increased patient flow has caused excessive congestion in medical facilities. The statement noted that due to overcrowding, the process of placing patients in beds cannot always be organized promptly.
PASIDI also highlighted that patients are forced to wait for long periods in emergency departments due to the lack of available beds. In response, the organization called for all relevant stakeholders to convene immediately to develop measures to overcome the current crisis.
For residents in Cyprus, these facts mean increased pressure on public hospitals and potentially longer waiting times in emergency services. Official recommendations and additional measures from authorities were not provided in the published statement.
