Officers of the Aliens and Immigration Service of the Republic of Cyprus conducted a large-scale operation, resulting in the detention of 29 third-country nationals illegally residing in the republic.

According to the authorities, the checks were carried out as part of enhanced measures to control migration flows and combat the illegal stay of foreign nationals. Following the completion of the necessary procedures, deportation measures will be taken against the detainees.

According to official data, since the beginning of 2026, Cyprus has already repatriated 3,115 foreign nationals who were in the country illegally. This figure includes both voluntary returns and forced deportations.

Authorities also note a decrease in the number of irregular arrivals. From January to May 2026, 576 third-country nationals arrived illegally in Cyprus, compared to 730 people during the same period last year.

The police and immigration services state that they will continue active operations to identify illegally residing foreigners. Particular emphasis is placed on coordination between state agencies to accelerate deportation procedures and strengthen migration control.

In recent years, the migration issue has remained one of the key topics of the Republic of Cyprus's domestic policy, especially against the backdrop of increased pressure on the asylum reception system and growing costs for the maintenance of accommodation centers.
