Cyprus declares sufficient fuel and electricity reserves
Cypriot authorities and fuel companies assure that currently no disruptions in fuel supplies or electricity generation are expected, despite the tense situation in the Middle East.
Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou reported that reservoirs at power stations are filled with fuel for approximately two months ahead.
Suppliers of fuel oil and diesel have already arranged deliveries for the next month. A scheduled delivery of fuel oil from Spain is expected on Tuesday. Typically, fuel arrives every two to three weeks.
At the same time, the EAC admitted there is no specific contingency plan in case the Strait of Hormuz is closed, but the situation is under constant monitoring.
Petrolina Executive Chairman Dinos Lefkaritis also stated there is no cause for concern.
According to him, the company's current reserves are calculated for about 15 days — the standard level for Cyprus. Deliveries are made approximately once a week.
He noted that in case of complications, alternative supplies are possible — through the VTTV terminal in the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as from Greece, Malta, or Italy.
"There is no reason to fear that fuel will run out," Lefkaritis emphasized.
