Cyprus police detain six people overnight and record 280 traffic violations
Cyprus police carried out raids across the island overnight into Saturday, detaining six people and issuing 280 citations for traffic violations.

The detainees are suspected of staying in the country illegally, unlawfully possessing property and working in private security without a licence. In total, patrols stopped 587 cars and checked 863 drivers and passengers. More than a third of the violations—110—involved speeding, and a further 11 vehicles were seized.
Police tested 306 drivers for alcohol; 27 were found to be driving under the influence. Three of the four rapid drug tests came back positive. Police also inspected 56 establishments and issued a further 14 citations there.
Police say such raids will take place daily, with more patrols on the streets and checks targeted at specific locations.
