Financial technology company Revolut has introduced a new type of debit card, on whose physical surface the usual details are completely absent, including the sixteen-digit number, expiry date and three-digit CVV security code. All of this confidential data is now stored exclusively inside the mobile app in encrypted form. According to the developers, the radical change in design is aimed at protecting customers' personal funds from data theft when physically using the card in restaurants, shops or ATMs.

The new plastic card format provides the highest level of confidentiality, since even if the physical card is lost or stolen, criminals will not be able to use it to make online payments that require entering card details. At the same time, cardholders can still make familiar contactless transactions and withdraw cash without any obstacles, and to shop online they only need to copy the number and code from their protected personal account on their smartphone.

Cybersecurity experts have positively assessed the initiative, noting that hiding payment information from physical cards is a logical step in the evolution of digital banking. It is expected that the new cards will soon become available for order to all European users, including Cyprus residents, through a standard mobile app update. The company expects that the introduction of the new technology will significantly reduce petty fraud statistics and increase overall trust in cashless payments.
