Tragedy in Limassol: 34-year-old man drowns while on holiday with his family
Israeli man disappears while swimming; his body found after two hours of searching
A 34-year-old resident of Jerusalem died on Tuesday while swimming at one of Limassol’s beaches.
According to Israeli media, the man was at the beach with his family and went into the sea. At some point, he suddenly disappeared. Relatives began searching along the shoreline and in the water, with the search continuing for about two hours.
Rescue services were called after a powered paraglider flying over the sea spotted a person in the water. Rescuers pulled the man from the sea, but doctors pronounced him dead at the scene.
The ZAKA organisation said it was working with Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cypriot authorities to assist the deceased man’s family and arrange the necessary procedures to return his body to Israel.
A ZAKA representative described what happened as a «tragic loss» and noted that the organisation was keeping in contact with the deceased man’s relatives.
