Strong Earthquake Hits Off the Coast of Cyprus
A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Cyprus last night, with tremors felt across the entire island and throughout the eastern Mediterranean. The areas of Paphos and Limassol were hit the hardest.
According to the Geological Survey Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Cyprus, the earthquake occurred around 12:30 AM. The Seismological Service recorded a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter was located in the sea, 18 kilometers southwest of Paphos, at a depth of approximately 13 kilometers.
The tremors were strongly felt in Paphos and Limassol, as well as other parts of Cyprus. Despite the brief duration of the seismic activity, local residents described the rumbling and vibrations as quite intense, lasting about 10-15 seconds.
The earthquake caused minor damage to homes and buildings, but no casualties have been reported.
