The Oxi roundabout in central Nicosia will be closed for six months, and the Constanza parking lot will be shut down
Central Nicosia is facing a major transport disruption with the start of a new phase of roadworks, under which the busy Oxi roundabout (OXI) will be completely closed to traffic, and the popular municipal Constanza parking lot will also be shut down. According to an official statement from the capital’s municipality, these restrictions are being introduced as part of a project to modernize the city’s infrastructure and will remain in place until December this year.
The closure of the parking lot on the Constanza bastion will deal a serious blow to logistics in the central part of the city, as drivers will temporarily lose hundreds of parking spaces within walking distance of the old town and popular shopping streets. City authorities are urging motorists to plan their routes in advance, use alternative municipal parking areas located on other bastions of the Venetian walls, and strictly follow the temporary road signs and detour directions.
These measures are necessary for the complete replacement of underground utilities, the renewal of the road surface, and the expansion of pedestrian zones. The Nicosia municipality apologizes in advance for the inevitable traffic jams and asks residents to be patient, as the long-term works are aimed at improving overall traffic conditions and the aesthetic appearance of the capital.
