In the Republic of Cyprus, lavender cultivation has been developing for more than twenty years. Every summer, residents and tourists head to festivals to see the blooming fields, try products from local producers, and learn about the traditions of growing aromatic plants.

Lavender Festival at CyHerbia, Avgorou

CyHerbia is considered the main center for lavender cultivation in Cyprus. The botanical park was created as a private collection of medicinal and aromatic plants, and over time it turned into one of the island’s best-known themed attractions.

The first lavender festival here took place more than ten years ago and quickly became popular among residents of the Republic of Cyprus and foreign tourists. Today, the festival attracts thousands of visitors every year, who come not only for beautiful photos, but also to learn about the production of essential oils and natural cosmetics.

The main highlight of the festival is the blooming lavender fields. In mid-June, the plants reach peak bloom, and the park grounds turn into rich purple shades. Many guests come here specifically for photo sessions against the backdrop of blooming lavender.

Lavender Festival in Platres

Date: 5 July 2026, 11:00–19:00

The festival in Platres appeared much later, but it quickly took its place among the most interesting summer events in the mountain region of Cyprus.

Platres is known for its mild climate, pine forests, and rich history. At the beginning of the 20th century, members of the European aristocracy отдыхали here, and today the village is considered one of the island’s most popular mountain resorts.

The festival takes place on the central square and brings together lavender producers from all over Cyprus. Unlike CyHerbia, the main emphasis here is not on the botanical park, but on traditional rural culture and local crafts.

A trip to the lavender festival in Platres can be combined with a visit to several popular sights in Troodos. One of the most famous routes leads to Caledonia Waterfall (location) — a picturesque waterfall located among pine forest and mountain trails. After the walk, many tourists head to Psilo Dendro Trout Farm & Restaurant (location) — a famous trout farm where fish are raised in their own pools with cold water from mountain springs. Here you can try fresh trout, which is considered one of the gastronomic calling cards of the region. For families with children and lovers of active recreation, an interesting addition will be Sparti Platres Rope Adventure Park (location) — a rope park with routes of varying difficulty, located among the Troodos pines.

Which festival to choose

If the main goal is to see large blooming lavender fields and take beautiful photos, it is better to go to CyHerbia in Avgorou. That is where the most famous lavender plantations in the Republic of Cyprus are located.

Those who want to combine getting acquainted with lavender, mountain villages, and traditional Cypriot culture will be better suited to the festival in Platres. In addition to the festival itself, you can visit Caledonia Waterfall, the Psilo Dendro Trout Farm & Restaurant, and the Sparti Platres Adventure Park, all located just a few minutes from the village center.

Many island residents attend both events, since they are almost a month apart and the festival formats differ noticeably.

Useful to know before you go

• The best time to visit CyHerbia is morning or evening, when there are fewer visitors and the light is softer for photos.
• In June, temperatures in the Larnaca District can exceed 30 °C, so it is recommended to bring a hat and water.
• In Platres, it is usually a few degrees cooler thanks to its mountain location.
• At both festivals, you can buy locally made natural lavender products.
• For popular workshops, it is better to arrive early.

Lavender festivals remain among the most atmospheric summer events in the Republic of Cyprus and allow you to see the island from a different side — among fragrant fields, mountain villages, and traditional crafts.
