42nd Anniversary of the Proclamation of the TRNC: Event Program and Traffic Arrangements

Events dedicated to the 42nd anniversary of the proclamation of the TRNC are taking place in Northern Cyprus. The traditional celebrations began today with a speech by President Tufan Erhürman on BRTK and a 21-gun salute. This will be followed by ceremonies at the memorials of Dr. Fazıl Küçük (15:00) and Rauf Raif Denktaş (15:30).

Today at 17:30 in Gazimağusa, the traditional Fener Alayı will commence — the route will run from DAÜ Çemberi to İsmet İnönü Boulevard (in front of Macro AVM).

Events on 15 November

The main part of the program is scheduled for 15 November.

– 08:45 — reception of congratulations by the President at the Presidency.
– 09:30 — wreath-laying ceremony at Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa.
– 10:00 — official parade on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard. The program includes: flag handover from Lefke and Erenköy, speeches by President Tufan Erhürman and the representative of Turkey, a performance by the Mehteran Unit of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, followed by the parade.

After the parade, celebrations will continue in Girne. Performances will take place at the Atatürk Monument on the seafront, and from 14:45 to 17:00 the “Gençlik Dairesi Cumhuriyet Şöleni” will be held — covering the old Girne Municipality Building, Girne Atatürk Monument and Girne Ancient Harbour.

In the evening at 19:00 an official reception is planned at the Presidency.

District Celebrations

Separate ceremonies will take place in all districts:

– Lefkoşa: 08:30 — ceremony at the Martyrs’ Monument.
– Girne: 14:00 — wreath-laying at Atatürk Monument, official program and parade.
– Güzelyurt: 11:45 — ceremony at Atatürk Monument; 12:00 — second part at the museum.
– İskele: 09:00 — ceremony at Ecevit Square and parade.
– Lefke: 09:00 — events at Atatürk Monument with a parade.

Separate celebrations will also take place in Mehmetçik.

Concerts and Sports Events

– Concerts in Güzelyurt: İkilem on 14 November, Murat Kekilli on 15 November (Kapalı Pazar Square, 19:00).
– Federation events: Taekwondo “Htong-Pumse” competition (14 November, 16:00, Avrasya Taekwondo Center); Republic Cup in equestrian sports (16 November, 10:00, Royal Riding Club, Gazimağusa); Republic Cup in football-tennis (16 November, 09:00–16:30, Atatürk Sports Hall).
– Mehteran Unit concerts: 14 November at 15:30 — Girne Atatürk Monument; 15 November at 15:30 — in front of Gazimağusa Macro AVM.
– On 19 November at 19:00 the “Zamanın Baskısı” exhibition opening and the presentation of Fevzi Yalın’s book “Geçtiğimiz Günler” will be held at the BRT Broadcasting History Museum.

Traffic Restrictions on 15 November

In Lefkoşa, Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard will be closed to traffic from 07:00 until the end of the parade.

The police have indicated alternative routes:

– For those heading to Yakın Doğu University Hospital: via İrsen Küçük Lefkoşa Ring Road and Yakın Doğu Boulevard.
– Entry to Lefkoşa city center: via Hamitköy Roundabout — Mimar Mehmet Vahip Street and Şehit İsmail Beyoğlu Street, or via Honda Traffic Lights — Şehit Mustafa Ahmet Ruso Street.
– Towards Güzelyurt: via İrsen Küçük Lefkoşa Ring Road and Gönyeli/Alayköy Roundabout, or via Citröen Lights — Metehan-Alayköy Ring Road.
– From Güzelyurt to Lefkoşa: via Alayköy-Metehan or Gönyeli Roundabout — Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Street.
– From Girne to Lefkoşa: along the Girne-Lefkoşa main road, then via Gönyeli Roundabout and Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Street.
