85,000 Turkish Cypriots included in the EU voter registry
In the European Parliament elections in June 2024, 85,000 Turkish Cypriots will be eligible to vote. A system of automatic registration has been introduced for citizens residing in the northern part of the island.
According to the office of the European Parliament in Cyprus, a new system has been developed that allows Turkish Cypriots to vote in the elections scheduled for June 2024. It is expected that the Minister of Internal Affairs of Greece will announce this soon.
It is noted that the 85,000 Turkish Cypriots living in the north will no longer need to go and register on the voter list; it will now happen automatically, as is the case for other Republic of Cyprus citizens living in the south. It was also stated that in the near future, it will be possible to find out at which polling station one can vote by entering personal data on the website.
It is assumed that this initiative was considered for Turkish Cypriots who wanted to vote four years ago but were unable to do so, and it is part of a package prepared by the head of the administration of Greek Cypriots, Nikos Christodoulidis, for Turkish Cypriots.
It should be added that the European Parliament elections will take place in all EU countries from June 6 to 9, 2024.
