Air traffic controllers announced a strike at Ercan Airport, but it was postponed for two months
The Union of Air Traffic Controllers of TRNC (HTKS) announced a strike at Ercan Airport. The protest action was supposed to start yesterday evening, but the Council of Ministers postponed it for two months.
The chairman of the board of directors of the Union of Air Traffic Controllers, Cem Kapisiz, reported the strike at the air harbor the day before.
- Despite our repeated warnings, aviation and, consequently, aviation safety in our country continue to be undermined by the state.
Ercan Airport has been turned into a state institution acting to collect money for the T&T company, rather than an institution that should provide passenger air transportation services - said the head of the union in a statement.
According to the union leader, air traffic controllers were supposed to start the strike at 19:30 yesterday. The action was supposed to last until 08:30 today.
Kapisiz said, "We, as HTKS, have spoken" and added, "Ercan Control will be on strike from 19:30 today until 08:30 tomorrow."
According to the Director of the Department of Civil Aviation, Mustafa Sofi, about 20 aircraft could have been affected as a result of the strike by air traffic controllers.
However, the protest action ended without even starting. The TRNC Council of Ministers with its decision postponed the strike initiated by the Union of Air Traffic Controllers at Ercan Airport for 60 days.
After the decision was published in the "Official Gazette" and came into force, the strike at the air traffic control section of Ercan Airport was canceled due to its "destructive nature for civil aviation."
